The visit

It was a bright Tuesday Afternoon, Patients were not coming, my boss was not around and the only thing rational to me was absconding from my duty post except that the sun was way too hot than it should be. I decided to visit my whatsapp, the most used application on my phone but as Satan will have it, all my numerous groups were in exile. Even my attempts to elicit noise in my class whatsapp group chat for which I was notorious in was even ignored, I became frustrated and was about running to Facebook save for a message from one of the Fine girls that find me irresistible🤓🤓🤓🤓. This one shaa na another long story. She called me a confused pharmacist because of my diary o and since I didn't want to reduce my chance of making her my 100th girl friend, the name of our column shall from today become the confused diary of a pharmacy student.

About 3 minutes into our convo, I got a call from the counter informing me of a visitor who wants to see me.

WEEKEND

Ever since Ralph Moore, my very good friend fascinated me with his knowledge of Aphrodisiacs and how much a pharmacy shop can make from it during the weekend, I have always looked forward to my first weekend as an IT pharmacist.

Something beyond my control stopped me from coming to work on my first weekend. 

As a true Nigerian, I was happy not having to go to work shaa. Monday came faster than I expected and I saw myself back at work. As usual I exchanged pleasantries and on my way to my little corner, something struck me. The condom rack on the counter that has been full since I resumed work on Monday was now empty. Arrgh!!! I was shocked, I was almost about to ask who removed the condoms till I recalled my interaction with Ralph over how weekend market is. This sprung up curiosity in me and made me to make a detour and head towards side where the blue pills were kept. To my utmost dismay, it also suffered the same fate as the innocent condoms on the rack, I stood and observed a minute silence for them why I tried to imagine where they are right now, anyway it's none of my business.

First Patient.

Life has always created room for a first time, so I expected it but not as fast as it came. The invitation from one of the sales boy whom I later found his name to be DEJI came with too many reactions. My ear contracted in a manner similar to I can't hear you, in a split second all my sweat pores opened up and started crying. My heart was not left out as it skipped 300 times in 1 second. Since propranolol ( a drug used in the treatment of stage fright) was not available at the moment and the patient cannot come and be waiting, I took a deep breath and like a lion I surged towards the patient why making a mental calculation of my incomplete knowledge of pharmacology and hoping to make my unborn children proud.

The patient was a average height, fair and tough looking guy with an almost dirty cap to match his polo whom from my assessment should be in his early twenties. The way he replied to my greeting showed he had a inept understanding of Igbo language, this made me continue in our local language since I could remember Pharm. Maureen's voice (the lecturer that taught my class introduction to pharmacy practice) telling us that usage of the patient's local language is the most perfect form of communication.

Wait! don't let the name deceive you o and you start seeing me as one of those pharmacist wannabes that just wanted to be a pharmacist without studying pharmacy, I am a pharmacy student who was recently introduced to the vast and humongous world of pharmacology with a near little knowledge of Pathology and diagnosis. This was my situation or something worse than this when my faculty decided in it's generosity to send me on an emergency IT.

The frenzy and Euphoria it created amongst my colleagues got me more interested as my first vow of I must go for IT came when as a freshman in the campus, I was lured to attend the first NFCPS fellowship. At that fellowship the way and manner the Magnifique class of 015 brandished and danced from front to back with a fat looking envelope did the job. I won't want to talk about the sad tales I got from my elder colleagues whom told me of how different it is in the practice. I brushed them off saying my case should be different.

UNILAG 300L Pharmacy Student Emerges President, Rotaract Club of Mushin with 2 Lagos State House of Assembly Honourables Confirmed To Grace His Installation Ceremony

Its a Great honour that a 300Level student of our very own UNILAG Pharmacy in person of Rotr. Salaam Adetunji Ayobami (Bammytyz) emerged the President, Rotaract Club of Mushin.

Guess what???
His installation as the President and launching of Community projects is coming up this Saturday, 28th of January, 2017.

The event is confirmed to be graced by high personalities.

To the COMPSSA President-Elect, Comrade Adunmoye Ayoade Anuoluwa (Triple A)

It is with strong, unreserved positive vibes that we write to congratulate you on your thoroughly deserved victory!

We must say that the mannerism with which you went about getting the job done is highly inspirational. Emerging from a relatively low-key personality to becoming the Primus Inter-Peres of the Idi-Araba Campus of our great University shows the strength of character, strand of maturity and unbridled confidence that resides in you. It was in fact the "no-noise policy" that was employed by your campaign base that makes us awestruck as it resonates on the consciousness that elections can be still be won without the usually extravagant fanfare.

We however hope that, when the dust settles and power is consolidated, the rallying cries and campaign promises uttered will be largely honored and COMPSSAITES be afforded the undiluted dividends of the democratic process.

COMPSSA Elections 2016

COMPSSA Decides 2016

The College of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Science Students Association is the students union body of CMUL.
The students body held her election for the new set of executives for the 2016/2017 academic session on Friday, 16th of December 2016

The general elections followed a manifesto by the aspirants on Wednesday 14th of December,2016 and the Presidential debate on Thursday, 15th of December 2016.

The aspirants made very strong points on the reasons compssaites should vote for them.
There were a lot of compssaites in attendance.

The Election day came and all Compssaites came out enmass to exercise their franchise.  The mode of voting was secret ballot as usual and was a very easy and smooth one.

Voting started at 9am  and ended 4pm at the New Great Hall.
Accreditation with a form of identification, and you ll be handed over the ballot papers immediately.

The electoral process was closely monitored by University officials and Security officials.

Prof Odukoya Wins 2016 May & Baker Professional Award

In what has been described by many as an award long overdue, Professor Olukemi Odukoya, a Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) and former dean, University of Lagos (UNILAG) Faculty of Pharmacy, has been announced winner of the 2016 Annual May & Baker professional service award in Pharmacy.

The award presentation which took place on November 8, 2016 at the opening ceremony of the 89th Annual National PSN Conference held at Idris Legbo Kutigi Conference Centre, Minna, Niger State had several distinguished pharmacists and fellows of the profession in attendance.

Prof. Odukoya has been credited with several trail-blazing innovations in academic pharmacy.

One of such is the introduction of annual White Coat Ceremony to complete transition of fresh UNILAG students from basic sciences into Pharmacy course work in 2014. This laudable initiative has since been adopted by a number of pharmacy schools in Nigeria, notably Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ibadan.

Speaking with Pharmanews, an elated Odukoya disclosed that much as she doesn’t like being caught unaware, she actually didn’t see the May & Baker Award coming.

“It is true that I have applied for the award before and failed to meet the requirements. This time, I took time to repackage myself well as I have learnt from my past mistakes.

“My message to other aspiring candidates hoping to win the award someday is simple. One can only aspire. It is not about doing something right. Aside brilliance, one must have done something for the profession. Needless to say, I have paid my dues,” she noted.

As expected, a thunderous applause rent the air when the amiable professor of pharmacognosy mounted the stage to receive her award which comes with a certificate, a plaque and an improved cash prize of N500,000.

Past winners of the May & Baker professional service award in Pharmacy included Pharm. (Lady) Adaeze Omaliko, managing director of Malix Pharmacy, Onitsha; Professor (Mrs.) Mbang Femi-Oyewo, MFR, former deputy vice chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University; Pharm. Ifeanyi Atueyi, managing director of Pharmanews Limited, Pharm (Mrs.) Margaret Obono, a Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) and Pharm. Folashade Lawal, a renowned community pharmacist.

In a similar vein, the May & Baker Award for excellence category went to the Lagos chapter of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) for producing the 2016 winner of the professional service award.
