A Confused Pharmacy Student's Diary:Episode 3

WEEKEND

Ever since Ralph Moore, my very good friend fascinated me with his knowledge of Aphrodisiacs and how much a pharmacy shop can make from it during the weekend, I have always looked forward to my first weekend as an IT pharmacist.

Something beyond my control stopped me from coming to work on my first weekend. 

As a true Nigerian, I was happy not having to go to work shaa. Monday came faster than I expected and I saw myself back at work. As usual I exchanged pleasantries and on my way to my little corner, something struck me. The condom rack on the counter that has been full since I resumed work on Monday was now empty. Arrgh!!! I was shocked, I was almost about to ask who removed the condoms till I recalled my interaction with Ralph over how weekend market is. This sprung up curiosity in me and made me to make a detour and head towards side where the blue pills were kept. To my utmost dismay, it also suffered the same fate as the innocent condoms on the rack, I stood and observed a minute silence for them why I tried to imagine where they are right now, anyway it's none of my business.

This little discovery of mine made me swear an oath on my breakfast that nothing shall
stop me from coming to work on Friday. In fact I started a countdown to FRIDAY where the sons of men invade the pharmacy without conscience. The week went well except one girl like that who snubbed me because of my sweet 16 and everyday young body, anyway it's a story for another day. Friday finally came and I found myself at work, this time earlier than normal. I came in, took my seat and stayed at a vantage point where I can see everybody coming into the pharmacy. I kept my phone aside all in a bid to get to the root of what happened to my precious condoms last Friday.

Patients started coming and going. I was almost disappointed when the first three young men whom I already proclaimed guilty came looking for antimalarials. I was almost about to forget my mission but I persevered. I started going through the cucumber post that was trending on Facebook, I shared Somtochukwu's post, I liked Martin's post and replied Isaaac's comment on my post. As I was about to log off, my first culprit showed up. He was dressed in a black Louis Vuitton polo and a gold plated watch and gold necklace too. He asked for "Foula" a brand of latex condom popular amongst UNIZIK guys, we didn't have it so I told him he was unavailable. I expected him to leave but he asked for the one we have available, I innocently told him of the common "gold circle and gold circle flex", I also informed him that we have kiss, fiesta, rough rider, durex and a glow spiked condom that has a vibrator. I was expecting him to ask for one but he asked me " Bros, which of the condoms better?". The question shocked me, I looked at my self in the mirror trying to understand if I was wearing the "ask me" tag. I took a closer look at him, I wanted to ask him if he had seen me in his other room before but ethics didn't allow me. So I just recollected myself and told him that all the condoms are good. Just that some are local while some are foreign, some are expensive while some are cheap, some are ribbed while some are not, some are flavored while some are not. After my explanation he settled for fiesta and left.

This experience got me thinking, NAFDAC and other regulatory bodies should include Pharmacists in their quality assurance checks of condom so that we can be able to tell our customers the one that is better. If they are bereft of modalities, they should inform me, I already have one in my head.

Anyway I am still at work and I have already sold 20 gold circles, 15 Durex, 25 fiesta, 3 vibrating condom, 12 rough rider. I have also prescribed about 10 packs of slidenafil and 8 packs of sildenafil containing drugs and about two packs of Tadalafil. The girls are not left out as some of them have come for Levongrestel popularly known as Postinor or post pill in preparation for the battle ahead.
